Challenge
News is only worth much while it's still new, and NewsArea247 wanted theirs moving fast on whatever screen a reader had to hand. The harder half was opening the platform up: anyone can file a story, which is what makes it fast and also what makes it fragile. Reach and reliability pull against each other, and the platform had to hold both.

A React web app, a Flutter app for iOS and Android, and an admin behind both. Readers get breaking stories as they land, and can like, save, comment on and share them. Anyone can file a story of their own. The admin is where the editorial side lives — publishing, editing, and the moderation tools that decide what makes it through — so the newsroom runs the platform without needing us.
Outcome
NewsArea247 now publishes almost daily, and a story can go out from wherever the person filing it happens to be — no desk, no waiting for someone to get back to the office. Readers pick it up on the web or the app, and the same admin serves both.
